My new book, Theology To Sing About, is now available as an e-book and will soon be as a printed book also. Theology is interesting. It is something that we should sing about. In the past it has often been the occasion for Christians to sing. The Psalms are full of theological truths. Our hymn book is one of the best examples of the joy we find in theology. And what is theology? It is the study of God. Christians should find no greater joy than in getting to know God better.
Often people say, “it doesn’t matter what you believe.” But, it does matter indeed. I once read about some people who ate meatballs laced with poison. They believed the food was safe but it was not. It mattered what they believed. It matters what a doctor believes. It matters what a bank believes. And it matters what the Christian believes. What we believe is the foundation for how we live.
Heretical teachings are built upon wrong theology. If we believe God is just one of many gods, we will live one way. If we believe that God is part of the universe, we will live another way. If we believe that God does not exist, we will think and act accordingly. We can explain much of the moral degradation in our country as the result of false belief systems.
This books is not meant to be exhaustive. Nor is it meant to be a scholastic work such as would be used in a classroom. The topics covered will be limited in scope. The purpose is to show that the core beliefs of Christianity are not dull and unnecessary. But, it is to show that they are stimulating, refreshing, and lead us to sing. Theology is the foundation that we dare not ignore. To ignore it is to build on the sand. To ignore it is to build on a floating iceberg. To ignore it is to build on a wisp of wind. We need something concrete, something enduring, something we can depend on, something we can sing about.
